At its most basic level, the role of an Editor is similar to that of a Project Manager, ensuring that every milestone meets the highest standard of quality and does so on time.
I’ve honed this skill in academia, and by editing and designing multiple monthly comics for Image and Dark Horse and managing the creation of longer-form OGNs from inception to print.
But an Editor is more than just a Project Manager; they’re also responsible for ensuring that the team sees their vision into the world in as painless a manner as possible, all while keeping everyone calm and cool in the process. As both the Chair of Comics at Columbus College of Art and Design and a freelance editor, I have helped guide fresh talent through the many minefields of the creative and production processes and stood by with pride as books became realities and students successfully graduated into the workforce.
